POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION FOR HARMATTAN SEMESTER 2018/2019 IN THE DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE, OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY, ILE-IFE
1. Candidates who applied for admission into postgraduate programmes of the Department of Political Science (Harmattan Semester 2018/2019) are invited to an interactive session with the Postgraduate Admission Committee on Monday 28th January 2018, 10am at the office of the Head of Department.
2. Candidates who are yet to submit the following documents to the Administrative Office (Room 151) should do so latest by Wednesday 24th January, 2019:
A. Transcript label
B. O’level certificate(s);
C. All degree certificates
D. Copies of transcripts
E. NYSC completion/discharge certificate
F. Two passport photographs
3. In addition, candidates for admission into the PhD programme should come to the interactive session with five copies of:
A draft of the intended research stating the applicant’s research interest(s) and planned focus area of his/her thesis. The draft must clearly state research gap showing fit with previous and current research, research questions and/or objectives and theoretical underpinning. Maximum 2500 words excluding references.
4. PhD candidates should visit the profile pages of lecturers on this website to check the research interests of professors and senior lecturers. Candidates are required to identify one or two potential supervisors whose areas align with their (candidate’s) proposed research and submit as part of the draft in three (3) above.
5. All candidates are to note that they must satisfy the o’level requirement of the Department. M.Sc (with thesis) candidates must have a minimum of 3.0 CGPA on a scale of 5 in their first degree programmes while PhD candidates must have Master’s degree with research thesis and a weighed coursework average not less than 60% (B+).
6. The Department considers it imperative to emphasise that an application for a postgraduate programme shall be considered on its merit; and general considerations for admission shall normally be based on available spaces, especially with respect to supervision.
